Glycation is a natural chemical reaction between sugar molecules and proteins, and is unavoidable in itself. But when blood sugar stays high over long periods, when large amounts of dietary AGEs are consumed, or when antioxidant capacity declines, glycation end-products begin depositing in long-lived tissues such as collagen, elastin, blood vessel walls and the lens of the eye. Once these tissues are glycated the body can barely clear them, and can only wait for slow renewal — skin collagen takes years to turn over, and arterial walls longer still.

Frequently asked questions
My blood sugar is normal, so I shouldn't have a glycation problem
Blood sugar is only one source of glycation. AGEs also come from high-temperature cooking (grilling, frying, baking), declining antioxidant capacity, chronic stress and low physical activity. Plenty of people with normal fasting glucose and a healthy HbA1c still show high AGEs — because dietary and lifestyle patterns are the main drivers of glycation pressure.
Normal blood sugar doesn't mean no glycation; AGEs are the combined settlement across all three axes.
Dull skin is just a skincare problem
Topical skincare works on keratin turnover and surface oxidation, but collagen glycation is a structural change happening in the dermis — no product can reverse collagen that is already glycated.
