Reading Osteocalcin (formation) and β-CrossLaps (loss) together reflects how fast change is happening in your bone right now. Bone density shows the result; this shows the trend.

Worth testing if:

  • Around menopause, wanting to know the rate of loss early
  • Long-term calcium and vitamin D supplementation, and you want to confirm it is working
  • Sedentary with little exercise and insufficient sunlight
  • A family history of osteoporosis or fracture

What this test is for

Osteocalcin (bone formation marker) + β-CrossLaps (bone resorption marker) = an early read on how fast you are losing bone and how well your body regulates calcium, so your skeleton doesn't age ahead of schedule.

Test items

2 biomarkers

Osteocalcin (Bone Formation Marker)
Secreted by osteoblasts, it reflects how fast bone is currently being built. Closely tied to your vitamin D and K2 status.
β-CrossLaps (Bone Resorption Marker)
Fragments released when bone matrix is broken down, reflecting how fast bone is currently being lost. Read alongside the formation marker, it tells you whether the balance is positive or negative.

Four steps to start your test

1

Order online, book a location

Choose your test and pick a blood-draw time and location that suits you as you order.

2

A 10-minute blood draw

When the time comes you just show up. A professional takes your sample — we handle the rest.

3

Accredited laboratory analysis

Samples are processed by accredited testing institutions and interpreted to standard protocols.

4

Digital report

Once complete, your report is uploaded to your personal account with values and reference ranges clearly marked.

Frequently asked questions

Doesn't calcium alone make bones strong?

Bone health doesn't rest on calcium alone — it also needs the parathyroid and bone remodelling metabolism working in step. If PTH is out of balance or β-CrossLaps runs high, it can mean bone is being lost faster than it is built, and no amount of calcium will keep up.

I'm young — bones aren't my problem yet?

Bone loss quietly begins after 30, especially for people who lack weight-bearing exercise, are short on vitamin D, or carry chronic inflammation. The earlier you assess it, the more you can lower the future risk of fracture and functional decline

My bone density is normal, so I'm fine?

Bone density only looks at quantity. This pair looks at how active bone metabolism is — whether bone is being lost quickly in a way a density scan hasn't caught yet
