Monomethyl phthalate (MMP)
A low-molecular-weight plasticizer metabolite, common in cosmetics, nail polish and the coatings of some medicine capsules.
Monoethyl phthalate (MEP)
A metabolite of DEP; the most common sources are fragranced personal care products such as perfume and lotion.
Monobutyl phthalate (MnBP)
Derived from DBP, common in nail polish, hair gel and some plastic products, and associated with disruption of reproductive endocrine function.
Monobenzyl phthalate (MBzP)
Derived from BBzP, coming mainly from PVC flooring, plastic wallpaper and food packaging.
Mono(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (MEHP)
The main metabolite of DEHP and the most closely watched plasticizer marker. It commonly comes from hot food in plastic containers, cling film and medical tubing.

Methyl paraben (MP)
The most widely used preservative in cosmetics and skincare, with weak estrogenic activity.
Ethyl paraben (EP)
A preservative often used together with methyl paraben, and likewise weakly estrogenic.
Propyl paraben (PP)
More estrogenic than methyl and ethyl paraben; some countries now restrict how much may be used in children's products.
Butyl paraben (BP)
The most strongly estrogenic of the parabens, mostly found in creams, sunscreen and some foods.

A degradation product of surfactants, common in detergents and industrial wastewater, and a textbook environmental hormone.
4-tert-Octylphenol (4-t-OP)
In the same family as nonylphenol, coming from detergents and plastic additives, with estrogenic activity.
2,4-Di-tert-butylphenol (2,4-DTBP)
An antioxidant additive in plastics and rubber that migrates from packaging into food.
Bisphenol A (BPA)
The best-known environmental hormone, coming from PC plastics, can linings and thermal paper. Associated with insulin resistance and reproductive function.
Triclosan
The antibacterial agent in antibacterial soap and some toothpaste, associated with thyroid hormone disruption and antibiotic-resistant strains.
